Our venture began when Lothar and Lisa Maier purchased our 20-acre vineyard located off Kalthoff Common in the southwestern corner of Livermore Valley in January 2006. We wanted the name of our winery to be representative of the Livermore Valley; thus we began the search through local history books and maps to find an inspirational name. Las Positas is significant to Livermore Valley as it was the name that Robert Livermore gave his ranch. He called his 40,000-acre ranch, Rancho Las Positas, for the many small streams running through his property.
Las Positas is a family business where we strive to produce estate-grown wines with unique character and exceptional quality.
To achieve this goal, we removed a number of old Chardonnay vines and replanted the vineyard with Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Petite Verdot, and Tempranillo.
Las Positas is proud to announce the acquisition of its new wine storage and production facility located off Greenville Road in Livermore. We will be opening a tasting room at this facility in early 2010.
